Meet the 12 Archetypes

The twelve archetypes offer a way of seeing recurring human patterns more clearly. No one archetype is more important than another. Each reflects something meaningful, and together they offer a richer picture of both the individual and the whole.

Caregiver

The Caregiver notices what others need and responds with nurturing, generosity, and steady support. The desire to care can become a burden when being needed takes priority over their own well-being.

Creator

The Creator imagines what could exist and brings it into form through creativity, vision, and willpower. The desire to make something exceptional can become perfectionism that keeps an idea from ever taking shape.

Explorer

The Explorer seeks freedom, discovery, and the room to live authentically beyond familiar roles and expectations. That search can become restless when staying or committing begins to feel like confinement.

Hero

The Hero meets challenges with courage, perseverance, and the strength to protect what matters. The pursuit of mastery can become a need to keep proving their worth through achievement and winning.

Innocent

The Innocent seeks safety and brings trust, loyalty, and a strong sense of duty. The wish to do the right thing can become unquestioning compliance when speaking up or being different feels unsafe.

Jester

The Jester builds connection through humor, play, and the ability to bring relief and perspective to heavy moments. The desire to keep life enjoyable can become a way of avoiding depth, discomfort, or commitment.

Lover

The Lover seeks intimacy and brings passion, warmth, and devotion to relationships. The longing for closeness can become a pursuit of approval or intensity, confusing being desired with being truly known.

Magician

The Magician sees possibilities others don’t yet see and uses charisma and influence to catalyze change. The desire to transform things can become manipulation when shaping an outcome takes priority over the people involved.

Orphan

The Orphan seeks belonging and recognizes the shared humanity in people’s struggles, bringing empathy, compassion, and grounded realism. The fear of being left out or abandoned can make suffering feel central to connection.

Outlaw

The Outlaw seeks liberation and, with little attachment to status or approval, can speak truths that challenge injustice and oppressive rules. The desire for freedom can become needless destruction when opposition becomes an identity.

Ruler

The Ruler brings order, stability, and stewardship by coordinating the whole system and taking responsibility for how it functions. The wish to maintain order can become rigid control when uncertainty or disruption feels threatening.

Sage

The Sage seeks understanding and brings wisdom, discernment, and a gift for teaching and mentoring. The desire to know can become a need for certainty that delays action or creates distance from others.

A Wider View of Human Nature

This work is not about ranking qualities from better to worse. It is not about deciding which archetype is the “best” one to be.

It is about seeing more of the whole — in yourself, in other people, and in the larger human picture. We each express different patterns more strongly, but all of these qualities belong to human life. Recognizing that can soften judgment, deepen self-understanding, and bring a greater appreciation for the roles people play in the wider whole.

Insight matters, but not as a performance. The value is in seeing yourself with greater honesty, nuance, and compassion — and in recognizing that what has shaped you does not have to limit what becomes possible next.

More Than A Personality Label

The Archetypes Indicator is not a standard personality test, and it is not meant to reduce you to a type.

It is a more interpretive process that looks for meaningful inner patterns — strengths, blind spots, tensions, and recurring strategies that may be shaping the way you move through work, love, identity, purpose, and change.

It can also widen the lens. No single quality or style of being human holds the whole. We need many different forms of strength, care, perception, action, restraint, leadership, imagination, and service. In that sense, archetypal insight can deepen not only self-understanding, but also respect for people who are different from us.

FAQs

How can this help me?

The Archetypes Indicator can help you recognize patterns in how you approach challenges, relationships, and decisions—including gifts you rely on and blind spots you may overlook. Understanding these patterns can also help you appreciate people whose approach to life differs from yours.

Can this reveal something I haven’t noticed about myself?

It may bring attention to strengths, fears, or recurring habits you haven’t fully recognized. Sometimes the insight is something new; other times, it gives words to something you’ve felt for years.

Can archetypes help explain why certain people irritate me?

They can offer clues. Someone else may express a quality you find difficult to understand, uncomfortable to encounter, or challenging to express yourself. Exploring that reaction can reveal something about your own patterns—and help you see what the other person brings.

Can my archetypes change?

Yes. Your results reflect where your energy and attention have been going lately. As your circumstances, priorities, and ways of responding change, different archetypal patterns may come forward. If you return and take the quiz months later, your results may be different.

Are there archetypes that conflict with one another?

Yes. Some archetypes pull in different directions: the Innocent seeks safety, while the Explorer seeks freedom; the Ruler creates order, while the Outlaw challenges restrictions. You might recognize these tensions within yourself or between you and someone else. Neither side is inherently wrong—each brings something the other may overlook.

Will this label me as one type?

You aren’t limited to one archetype. All twelve belong to the wider range of human experience, and the indicator explores which patterns are more prominent for you. No archetype is better or more important than another.
